erwarb den Titel eines M.A. an der Universität Milano, promovierte dann an der Universität des Saarlandes im Jahre 1988 und habilitierte sich 1995 an der Universität Trier. Er lehrte Deutsche Philosophie an der School of Philosophy of the Catholic University of America und übernahm im Jahre 2003 die Professur für Geschichte der Philosophie an der Università di Verona. 2009 wurde er Direktor des Istituto per il Lessico Intellettuale Europeo e Storia delle Idee-CNR in Rom. Er ist Botschafter der Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation für Italien und Vorsitzender des Committee on the Teaching Philosophy of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie. Als gewähltes Vollmitglied des Internationalen Gesellschaft für Philosophie ist der Mitorganisator des ,World Congress of Philosophy‘ in Beijing 2018.

"I am a Kant scholar based in Berlin. My academic work focuses on various aspects of Kant’s practical philosophy, as well as contemporary topics in political and social philosophy. On this website I present my work and my current research interests. I studied philosophy and international relations at the University of Lodz, University of Bonn and Brown University. I received my PhD from University of Lodz (Poland) in 2015 with a dissertation “The Project of The Universal Rightful Condition in Kant’s Philosophy of Right”. Since my graduation I worked in Lodz (as Assistant Professor), Bayreuth (as Postdoc and Deputy Professor for Ethics) and Bonn (as an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow). Currently I am working at the Ruhr-University of Bochum for the AHRC/DFG funded project Using people well, treating people badly.

was vanaf 1980 tot aan zijn emeritaat in 1990 als opvolger van Jaap van Praag bijzonder hoogleraar in de Wijsgerige Antropologie en de Grondslagen van het Humanisme op de Socrates Leerstoel van de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden. Aan deze universiteit was hij al eerder vanaf 1970 verbonden.
In een hieronder uitgewerkte lezing,  28.11.1987 ter gelegenheid van de 100-jarige sterfdag van Multatuli, gaat Fresco in op Multatuli.
Fresco was ook auteur en schreef boeken over onder andere het humanisme in de oudheid, over filosofie en kunst. Fresco heeft zich onder meer gestort op Hemsterhuis, met vele publicaties als blijvend resultaat. Hij bracht een bijzondere invalshoek mee door zijn grote kennis van de klassieke Oudheid.
Fresco studeerde klassieke letteren en filosofie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Hij promoveerde in 1971. Fresco was leraar onder andere in Brussel (Europese School). Fresco heeft zich ingezet voor het filosofieonderwijs in Nederland.
